Kapuso stars and their New Year's resolutions

‘Puso ng Pasko Artista Challenge’ Airs Finale this Friday

“It’s going be to Cesar Montano and Sunshine Cruz vs. Raffy Timaand Mariz Umali vs. Ervic Vijandre and Heart Evangelista in the hair-raising finale of GMA-7′s “Puso ng Pasko” Artista Challenge this Friday, Dec. 31.

The three pairs emerged as the top celebrity challengers from their respective groups – Red, Blue and Green – after a series of challenges, which range from the death-defying to the heart-warming.

Hosted by award-winning broadcast journalist Vicky Morales and Kapuso hunk Richard Gutierrez, together with challenge hosts Rhian Ramos and Drew Arellano, Puso ng Pasko Artista Challengefeatures 24 Kapuso stars playing in pairs as they perform the challenges to win over five million in cash and prizes for their partner family and the family’s community.

Red Group members include Heart Evangelista and Ervic Vijandre;Bianca King and Aljur Abrenica; Rachel Ann Go and Kris Lawrence; and Jennica Garcia and Carl Guevarra.

Blue Group has Sunshine Dizon and Cesar Montano;Ynna Asistioand Mark Herras; Kris Bernal and Rocco Nacino; and Fabio Ide andGwen Zamora.

The Green Group members, on the other hand, include Raffy Timaand Mariz Umali; Carla Abellana and Geoff Eigenmann; Paolo Contisand Sam Pinto; Bubbles Paraiso and Benjie Paras.

Cash and other prizes such as motorcycles, scholarships, a Kabuhayan Showcase worth P150, 000 and thousands of gifts for an entire community have all been given away in the biggest, most exciting and heart-warming way to give back to those who have given so much.

Among the partner families and communities are that of Teresa Martinez and the community of San Jose Montalban Rizal which already won P100,000 and an STI scholarship (for the partner family), and 1,000 pairs of shoes (for the partner community) through the efforts of celebrity challengers Aljur Abrenica and Bianca King;Jonathan Manaois‘ family and the community of Banaba, San Mateo Rizal which won P100,000 and one motorcycle (partner family), and 100 bikes (partner community) through celebrity challengers Carl Guevarra and Jennica Garcia; and Alex Jesus Bautista‘s family and the community of Joan of Arc, Gulod, Novaliches Quezon City which won P100,000 and P150,000-worth of Kabuhayan Showcase (partner family), and 500 half-sacks of rice (partner community) through celebrity challengers Ervic Vijandre and Heart Evangelista.

Other winners include Violeta Guevarra‘s family and the community of Purok 4, Zone 8, Cupang, Antipolo City which will receive P100,000 and an STI scholarship (partner family), and 1,000 pairs of shoes (partner community) through the efforts of celebrity challengers Raffy Tima and Mariz Umali; and Tess Carolino‘s family and the community of Talipapa, Novaliches Q.C. which will receive P100,000 and one motorcycle (partner family), and 100 bikes (partner community) through celebrity challengers Mike Tan and Sam Pinto.

The celebrity challengers selected their partner families from among hundreds of entries that comprise of the “most deserving” families–those that have done good deeds for others or their community.

Everyone has their own reason for choosing to help others in need. Kapuso Actress Rhian Ramos has three. "Isa, marami naman talagang nangangailangan ng konting tulong." Rhian shares that in her experience, there is always someone who needs a little help carrying their burdens. Second, she stresses that it's also our responsibility, as human beings, to help others in need. "Nasa tao na lang ‘yun kung gagampanan niya talaga 'yung responsibilidad niya na 'yun o hindi." Third, Rhian says that it's also a spiritual thing. "Iba 'yung feeling na bumili ka ng [gadget] para sa sarili mo, sa bumili ka ng [gadget] para sa kapatid mo. Iba 'yung happiness. "Ako, mas na-a-appreciate ko 'yung happiness pagka may ginawa ako para sa iba."

Rhian is not alone in believing these reasons; many Kapuso Stars also reach out to help, and not just when calamities hit. Akihiro Sato and his fellow Mercator Models (JC Tiuseco, Daniel Matsunanaga, Fabio Ide, Ian Batherson, among others) regularly do outreach projects for Gawad Kalinga, and so do many GMA Artist Center talents. Even the late Marky Cielo has inspired his fans (Tropang Noinoi) to continue doing outreach in many children-oriented centers, this time joined by various celebrities.

As for Rhian, she has a special place in her heart for CHILD Haus, a center for health improvement and life development for children diagnosed with cancer. This is where she spends her birthday every year. "Una ko 'tong ginawa, mga four years ago." Rhian explains that in the beginning, she was joined only by her mother and her handler. But the following year, the Cyberhians (Rhian's group of active supporters) have started to help her out as well. The young star has realized the power of fandom when she asked for the Cyberhian's help in staging her birthday this year. "Talagang humihingi na ako [ng tulong], hindi na ako nahihiya. ‘Yun ‘yung hinihingi kong gift [from those who are offering]." She adds, "Imbis na bigyan nila ako ng T-shirt na baka hindi ko magamit, ibigay na lang natin sa mga sigurado tayong makakagamit. Marami ka pang napasaya." And her supporters have been very generous with their help. Rhian says that from slicing cakes to asking kids to fall in line, the Cyberhians have done it without any qualms—“ganoon sila kabait; tinutulungan nila talaga ako."

But, Rhian has one wish she can't just ask from her supporters. And it will impact the charity she supports, CHILD Haus, greatly: a new place for the children of CHILD Haus to call home. "I think, really, without this sending away stuff, they [already] have enough things to worry about." Rhian continues, "They're about to lose not only their home, but their method of treatment as well. Who will give them chemotherapy now? Where are they going to do it? "These are people you can actually give their lives back to." "So if you know a place; if you heard of an old school, or anywhere with a lot of rooms and hallways, just let us know." Rhian says, "basically, that's what we need: information, a place, and funding. And that's something we [hope] to do together."

MANILA, Philippines – Rhian Ramos is the newest celebrity endorser for Cinderella. Clad in an emerald green asymmetrical dress from Seventeen, paired with an edgy studded belt, the actress looked every inch the fashionista at the contract signing graced by Cinderella CEO Arthur Coronel, Marketing and Communication director Malou de Venecia, group manager for imported brands Richie Santos, merchandising manager for house brands Marielle Santos-Po and GMA Artist Center manager Ida Henares.

The signing is the latest in Rhian’s career following her achievements on both small and big screens. In 2006, Rhian had her debut in Captain Barbell. It was followed by a string of TV roles in Lupin, My Only Love and LaLola. The pretty lass also proved her acting mettle in her film debut The Promise (for which she won the Golden Screen Award for a Breakthrough Performance in 2007) followed by My Monster Mom and I.T.A.L.Y.

What’s more, Rhian also happens to be a talented performer, having released a dance-music album called Audition Dance Battle under Universal Records.

Rhian represents the kind of girl that Cinderella personifies: Multi-faceted, excellent, always relevant and, in all instances, dressed to impress.
