What’s the road to international stardom? For Rhian Ramos and Alden Richards, it’s their internationally released film The Road, which has earned rave reviews here and abroad. They, along with their co-stars and director Yam Laranas, walked the red carpet in Hollywood that a lot of local artists dream of.
Coming out seemingly unscathed from one of the biggest intrigues she had to face, Rhian puts her game face back on and is keeping herself busy with her blooming career.
Meanwhile, newcomer Alden is making waves in the industry, wowing his fans in a sexy billboard for a clothing endorsement and currently starring in a primetime series.
But even with a very demanding schedule, Rhian and Alden both know that a healthy lifestyle is something they need to work on. Learn more about them as they share how they live with a healthy mind, body, and soul.
RHIAN RAMOS
First off, congratulations on The Road! How does it feel that your film has been warmly received by US moviegoers?
It’s so surreal because I didn’t think that I would be able to have a movie of mine premiering in Hollywood. And it’s such a big deal for me, and I guess for every other Filipino, that a movie of ours is going to be shown commercially, finally.
My expectation or my hope for it is that maybe it can open the doors for Americans to start thinking of Filipinos as entertainers and that when they’re casting they think of us.
If you’re not an actress, what would you be doing?
For sure it would have something to do with clothing. Probably, I would be trying to design streetwear.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
They would be surprised to know that I designed the furniture that goes into my room. I usually design furniture that does more than one thing—like my bed turns into a desk so I don’t need a desk in my room.
ALDEN RICHARDS
In three words, describe to us the feeling about The Road being been released in the U.S.
Happy, proud, excited! I’m also a bit tense because it’s the very first Filipino film to be distributed internationally in mainstream cinemas, and I feel like this is our chance to show what the Filipino craft is made of.
What’s your dream role?
Something to do with an action movie. My dream role before was to play a psycho killer, which The Road already gave me.
So tell us, what got you started in show business?
I used to do commercial modeling and and then I auditioned for Starstruck 5. I was in the same batch as Sarah Lahbati and Steven Silva. I got turned down so I tried my luck in another reality show (PBB Clash 2010). Unfortunately, wala pa rin so I went back to school.
But because of my short stint with Starstruck, doon ako nagkaroon ng connection with GMA and they would contact me, pinapapunta ako sa auditions for commercials. There was this particular audition for an afternoon soap (Alakdana) and then yung role was for one of the leading men of the lead girl. I was at school, umalis ako in between classes para lang pumunta doon sa audition.
What’s the most challenging part about your job?
Stress, sleepless nights, and intrigues. But I know that’s part of showbiz so that’s okay. Mas marami yung good side for me kasi even though may stress, hindi nakakatulog, at may intriga, there’s still a reason for me to be passionate about my work: my family. Yung passion ko sa acting, it’s what keeps me alive, that’s what keeps me doing this job that I love.
