MANILA, Philippines – TV host-actress Rhian Ramos revealed that her mother is in better shape now after having been diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer early this year.

“We had her cyst removed, so my mom is really healthy and happy and you wouldn’t even think that she ever got diagnosed with it,” she related to Bulletin Entertainment and other members of the media during the launch for Avon’s Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer (KGBC) campaign held last Sept. 6 at The Peninsula Manila.

The young Kapuso star said that her mother, now 50, takes alternative medicine for treatment as the latter's body is sensitive to other medical procedures.

Rhian Ramos, Mo Twister exclusively dating

By Glenda Villena, For Yahoo! Southeast Asia  Thursday March 3, 2011 02:10 am PST

For months now, the real score between Rhian Ramos and Mo Twister's relationship remained a mystery.

In an earlier interview with Yahoo! Southeast Asia, the DJ-TV host said he's trying his best to win Rhian over.

On Tuesday, March 1, Rhian sat down with Yahoo Southeast Asia to finally answer lingering questions on the status of her relationship with Mo.
"We are dating. I don't know. Nothing too serious, nothing very official pero I'm not the type of person that dates like two or three guys at the same time so I'm keeping it exclusive," Rhian clarified before the pocket interviews for GMA News TV's newest entertainment show, “In the Limelight.”

Meanwhile, the success of her latest movie with on-screen partner Richard Gutierrez was a pleasant surprise for her.

"I was really happy about the turnout of the movie. I actually had a fear going into it because maybe people will be sick of seeing the two of us together but that wasn't the case. I was really pleasantly surprised. Some of the bosses in GMA Films were joking with me na dapat daw magka movie na ulit kami ni Chard pero there was no formal discussion. It was merely joking around with me."

Rhian Ramos takes her new role as showbiz newscast reporter seriously

Rhian Ramos takes her new role as showbiz newscast reporter seriously

"I'm not really a host, I'm a reporter. I have a lot of friends kasi na kahit sila nagre-report ng showbiz news. So I study them. I see how they handle it. Not naman to ask for advice kasi we can't naman all have the same style, 'di ba? Pero it helps talaga a lot na kasama ko si Aubrey Carampel and Nelson Canlas kasi they have made a name for themselves in showbiz reporting," said Rhian Ramos about her GMA News TV program titled In the Limelight .

Actress-host Rhian Ramos feels that hosting a showbiz talk show has advantages for her rather than disadvantages.

"Actually sa tingin ko it's a strength kasi it's closer to home. How can I report about something that I don't know? You can't make me read or report on something that I don't know. For example, I'm an artista, I can report about showbiz news. You can't make me report about biology or something like that," explained Rhian to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during a pocket press conference held last March 1 at the GMA Network Center in Quezon City.

Rhian is the host of In the Limelight—a showbiz newscast program aired daily at 7:30 p.m., with replays at 11:00 a.m., on GMA News TV (Channel 11).

In the Limelight launch plug for GMA News TV

Rhian and her passions

Despite the demands of her brilliant showbiz career, Rhian Ramos still enjoys life outside work where she gets to pursue her other passions.

Whenever Rhian isn’t busy with shooting, pictorials, public appearances and whatnot, she lets wanderlust take control by planning which country to visit next. To date, Rhian has been to USA, Singapore, China, Europe, among so many other places, for work or for play or even for both. "I love going out of the country as much as I can. I collect mugs from every city I visit," says she.

Traveling for the young actress may come across to others as if it’s as simple as going wherever at the snap of a finger and bringing home a memorabilia, but in reality, she throws herself into the whole thing head first: from studying a prospective country to which side trips to take and which sites to see once there, she has all the bases covered. "I use the Internet to research," says Rhian, who has made it a "mission" to visit a new city every year.

Rhian to host new showbiz talk show

  • Rhian Ramos will be part of the new GMA News TV hosting the Kapuso network's all-news channel's showbiz-oriented talk show, "Spotlight: The Showbiz Newscast."
This puts her in the league of Pia Guanio, Rufa Mae Quinto, Mo Twister, Maxene Magalona, Ruffa and Raymond Gutierrez, KC Concepcion, Toni Gonzaga, and Charlene Gonzales--showbiz personalities who deliver entertainment news and, at times, are also in the news.
So what would Rhian do if she has to do a report on an issue that concerns her or is connected to her? For instance, how would she do a report on TV5 host and rumored boyfriend Mo Twister?
"I think it's either ako or baka kay Nelson Canlas or Aubrey Carampel kasi baka weird kung galing sa akin," she said in an interview during the GMA News TV trade launch on Monday, February 7, at the A. Venue Events Hall in Makati City.
She added, "At lahat naman ng mga actors and actresses, kahit sila mismo ang nagbabalita minsan, hindi sila exempt di ba? Hindi naman sila mga untouchables. So kahit naman ako pwedeng ibalita."

Rhian's Passion

Rhian's Passion
Article posted January 03, 2011

You don't have to be rich or famous para makatulong. Many celebrities, Kapuso or otherwise, have proven this by holding charitable events from time to time. Isa na sa kanila si Rhian Ramos.

An ardent supporter of CHILD Haus, Rhian has told iGMA.tv before about her passion for helping children in need of medical assistance. Pero, nang sabihin namin sa kanya na CHILD Haus is something everyone should support and help out, she didn't agree with us.

Rhian tells us that when people are choosing to help out, "dapat isa siyang bagay that personally touches your heart."

For Rhian, her passion is in helping children with cancer. "For me kasi, I really don't think it's fair na pag nagkasakit ang isang bata na hindi mo maku-cure. Kasi nagsisimula pa lang sila, hindi pa nila nae-experience [ang buhay]. Kaya nalulungkot ako doon. Gusto ko silang bigyan ng happiness."

And that's what touches her heart.

"Kung may tao na hindi naiintindihan ang concept of cancer—hindi dapat siya doon tumulong." She says that if a person really wants to help, doon siya dapat sa bagay na talagang may paninindigan siya. "Kung naniniwala siya sa education, or environment—sa mga ganoon. It has to touch you personally."

She adds na "wala kang makukuhang personal na satisfaction" if you decide to just give donation sa isang random institution. That, and you won't be inspired to do more.

During the relief efforts after Typhoon Ondoy, maraming nakausap si Rhian na mga nag-volunteer to help out. One of her duties then was to answer phones para tumanggap ng donations and pledges.

Rhian says that the simple act of cheering someone who needs cheering is a form of help in itself. "Hindi kailangan na payamanin mo sila."

Kaya nga to everyone who asks Rhian kung paano tumulong, she always has this advice: "puwede kang mag-volunteer work."

"Oras mo 'yung ibigay mo; minsan mas importante pa 'yun sa mabibigay ng ibang tao na gamit." Rhian continues na minsan mas kailangan pa nga yung naroon ka't tumutulong, instead of just dropping off a donation. She adds na everyone has to know that money and relief goods are not the only things people need, they also need time and compassion.

"For example, ang GMA Kapuso Foundation actually accepts help of all kinds." Rhian explains that the foundation doesn’t just ask for money, kahit ano lang na puwedeng ibigay ay tatanggapin nila. "[They] really make it easy for people to help."

Rhian Ramos currently continues her outreach through GMA-7's Puso ng Pasko Artista Challenge, airing weeknights after Beauty Queen.
